To our valued clients:

As our community and surrounding areas grow, we want to ensure our clients and patients receive the quality of care they’ve come to expect from Shuswap Veterinary Clinic. As a result, we’ve implemented some changes to our after-hours call service for small animals, effective April 16, 2021.

Clients with a small animal emergency should call our clinic directly at (250) 832-6069. If you are calling after 5 p.m., you will have the option to speak directly to a veterinary professional. This is a new service we are offering that we believe will improve the care for your pet and also provide reassurance to you. This service will help you decide if your pet needs to be seen or if they can be monitored at home until the next business day (video conferencing will be an option). For clients who call between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m., this service is still available, but if your pet needs to be seen by a veterinarian, you will have the option to book a telemed appointment, or you will be directed to Fairfield Animal Hospital in Kelowna or to Phases Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Kamloops, both which are 24-hour care facilities.

Please note: We can only provide urgent care and after-hours service to our regular, active clients. This is anyone who has brought their pet into the clinic within the last three years for a wellness exam (check up, vaccines, etc.). We appreciate and value the commitment from our current clients and need to ensure they take priority when their pets are ill or injured. Unfortunately, those who we haven’t seen in the last three years will be directed to other clinics, and if it’s urgent, to Fairfield Animal Hospital in Kelowna or Phases Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Kamloops. We welcome new patients and encourage you to bring them in for a check-up so we can meet your pet and register them in our system. If do you require after-hours service, we will then be able to see your pet.

If you’re referred to Fairfield Animal Hospital or to Phases Veterinary Emergency Hospital, please know that both clinics offer a full complement of staff who can provide continual monitoring to ensure the best outcome for your pet. Our goal is to ensure your pet receives the best treatment possible, no matter the time of day or night. This will ensure round-the-clock care for pets in distress and will provide peace of mind for you.

PLEASE NOTE: Our after-hours service for our large animal/livestock clients remains unchanged.

If you need a vet after hours, please continue to contact the clinic at 250-832-6069 and listen to the service options available,

We thank you for your understanding, and we appreciate the trust you place in us. As your family veterinarians, we look forward to providing your animals with the care they deserve, now and in the future.

We often get asked if we offer any payment plans?

Petcard-bannerUnfortunately, we do not offer any in clinic payment plans. We request that you pay for services provided at the time of your pet’s visit. If you have any questions about our payment policy, please feel free to ask. It’s a good idea to include the cost of veterinary care in your annual expenses. However, we understand that this sometimes isn’t possible.

For your convenience, we do accept major credit cards, as well as veterinary insurance plans, which can help cover many routine and emergency services. For those who need some financial assistance to meet the needs of their pets needs there is IFinance, a financial lending company for medical health care for pets. As we do not offer in clinic payment plans for services, we recommend the services of PetCard – veterinary financing. Click on the logo above to access their on-line application form.

Pet Health Insurance

We get asked all the time about pet health insurance. “Should we get it or not?”

This is what we always tell our clients….

  • We receive no direct benefit from insurance companies for signing up patients or marketing their products.
  • Our health recommendations are no different if a pet is on insurance or not on insurance. We always recommend what is in the best interest of the pet regardless.
  • Studies show that pets with pet insurance statistically receive more frequent care than those who are not. Many variables need to be considered before committing to a pet insurance plan. Your veterinary team can provide some direction.

There are lots of choices out there for pet insurance and we have done our research on the options available. There are many options available for you to research. We recommend Petsecure or Trupanion. Click on the link below to access their website, determine which fits your needs and receive a free quote.
